| SIMONE JOSEPH LES VIGNES PARALLELES ABV 13.5%
Les Vignes Paralléles (Parallel Vines) is the next generation wine from the Simone Joseph.
The grapes for this wine were sourced from vineyards in the region of the Gard between the triangle of villages of Rochefort-du-Gard, Remoulins and St.Hilaire d’Ozilhan, an area renowned for producing wines of fruit and elegance. It is a blend of 1/3 Grenache, 1/3 Syrah and 1/3 Carignan which were 100% de-stemmed and then co-fermented in cement tanks for 28 days. The resulting wine is medium bodied with a mixture of red and black cherry fruit flavours and a hint of spicy white pepper. The tannins are light and the acidity level helps carry the flavours through to give a very long finish.
The whole aim of producing this wine was to make something that is very pleasing when drunk on its own and yet which has enough structure to make it an excellent match with lots of different types of food , from grilled meats and full flavoured fish to richer pasta dishes and hard cheeses. At 13.5% it is at lower end of the alcohol scale for the Southern Rhône but nevertheless the grapes were still harvested at a level of sugar that provides the savoury fruitiness that so many consumers look for from the Rhône. Les Vignes Paralléles is in fact classified as a Côtes du Rhône but we would prefer customers to think of it as a varietal blend as it may in future be bottled under the new French category of IGP or Indication Géographique Protégée. This new category will replace all Vin de Pays wines from the 2010 vintage onwards.
We hope you like the label, the idea of the optical illusion of Les Vignes Paralléles is that it would suggest the wine is not what it seems but requires further contemplation and also represents the sometimes higgledy-piggledy layout of Rhône Valley vineyards.
